Newsflash

Well, finally the side work has been picking up again. I’ve been helping out with the computers at 2 Rock Dog Kennel  as well as finshing up websites for www.MarinCarService.com and www.MarinInsurance.net. I picked up a editing gig for a “was” one-page site that will be a total redo soon. This site is www.ChesLimo.com and I’m still working on www.RPPSOA.com as updates come in. The cool thing

I've run Norton Anti-virus ever since my first computer. It was a name I recognized and it worked well. Ok, I think it did. Really when you think of it, it's like when you pay $4.95 for the cheesy plastic thing that you mount to your bumper or fender that supposedly, when you drive fast enough to push air through it, emits a high frequency sound that scares off deer. If you think about it, how can you tell if it really works?

Well, I haven't had any problems as far as virus' go, but this last upgrade/subscription renewal is the last straw. I don't mind dealing with the slowing down of the computer if the safety is there, but when you download the upgrade and run the executable, everything should work fine. Right? NOT!

It installs fine and ran fine, but it still said that the subscription was almost expired. I spent hours the other night looking for a way to contact Symantec to resolve the issue. I tried all the support suggestions that I came across only to find they either didn't offer an option for the new version I just purchased, or there wasn't a solution after answering all there questions.

I uninstalled the application but when I went to reinstall it, it would just error out. Now there's not even an anti-virus/interenet security that's not quite up to date, but rather absolutely nothing to protect the computer. After finally getting a hold of a support person (who sounds just like the guys answering Dell's support phones), we got everything finally up and running. But for $70, that's way more trouble than it's worth.

I think it's time to look into McAffee....
