Stress from the oddest places
Today is Thursday April 30th and on May 9th, I’ve gotten together a bunch of riders for our annual NBSR track day with Zoom Zoom at Thunderhill. Well a bit ago a fellow rider who has been down with a broken leg offered me a set of “whicked” race slicks for a really low price. low enough that I have questioned the offer a couple of times because I feel bad taking them at that price.
Yesterday I had the tires mounted. Even though there was a concerning “event” while mounting them I realized that my excitement about finally having some GOOD tires for the track
is overwhelming. I can’t wait to ride on these things.
Today I went to put the wheels on the bike and the rear was flat. The “event” suddenly comes to mind and I call the gentleman who provided them. He was more than supportive.
I refilled the tire and and did the soap and water thing only to show that there is apparently no leak. I then submerged the wheel and again no bubbles anywhere. Meanwhile, my friend was on the phone with his Pirelli contact and was informed that those tires are Sears Point specific tires and that I’d burn them up at Thunderhill in no time.
So what does he do? He steps up and says he’ll replace the set with an appropriate set next week. Problem is, I leave Friday for the track and I’m away this weekend so I’ll have to get over there during the week, providing that the Pirelli rep pulls through.
I’m just a bit stressed about going to the track without tires…
